Leong Lu Yuan was called to the Singapore Bar in 2007 and has practiced as a dispute resolution lawyer since then, with a focus on shipping and insurance law. She began practice in an established law firm in Singapore, where she was admitted into partnership in 2012. Lu Yuan is also accredited as an Associate Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Centre.
Lu Yuan’s dispute resolution experience spans the field of corporate and commercial law, and includes advising on contractual and tortious claims, shareholder disputes, agency, employment law and agreements, the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act, and handling third party claims against service providers and goods manufacturers, property damage claims arising from fires, floods and failure of machinery.
Lu Yuan also acts in a broad range of wet and dry shipping matters, acting for insurers, P&I Clubs, cargo interests and shipowners.
Contentious matters in which she has acted include ship collisions, oil pollution matters, charterparty disputes, claims for mis-delivery of cargo, cargo damage and loss of cargo, disposal of abandoned cargo carried by air and sea, and marine insurance claims involving issues such as insufficient packaging, inherent vice and fraud.
Her non-contentious and transactional shipping work includes advising on and drafting contracts for the sale and purchase of vessels, shipbuilding contracts, crew agreements, standard fixture note / charterparty terms, and contracts for the sale and purchase of bulk cargo.
